I've spoken at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon, FOSDEM, Open Source Summit, LinuxCon, KCDs, Cloud Native Days, and more.

I talk about the OS layer beneath Kubernetes — immutable systems, edge deployments, and what it takes to run Linux reliably at scale.

Topics: cloud-native operating systems · immutable infrastructure · Kubernetes at the edge · bare-metal provisioning · open source & CNCF ecosystem

Long Bio

Mauro Morales is a Staff Engineer at Spectro Cloud working on the operating system foundations of modern cloud-native infrastructure, focusing on how Linux systems are designed, upgraded, and operated in distributed and edge environments.

Over the years, he has worked across the backend stack on systems that engineers rely on every day — from building data infrastructure at Telefónica, to developing Linux system tooling at SUSE, to contributing to infrastructure-platform interfaces within Cloud Foundry. He has worked on CI/CD runtime platforms at CodeShip, performance engineering at Babel, and numerous production web systems. His work consistently sits close to the parts of the stack where reliability and operational correctness matter most.

Within the CNCF ecosystem, Mauro is a maintainer and advocate of Kairos, a CNCF Sandbox project focused on rethinking how Linux distributions are built and managed. He also co-hosts the Cloud Native Brussels community group and is a member of the TAG Workloads Foundation.

Originally from Guatemala, Mauro now lives in Belgium with his family. Outside of engineering, he trains for long-distance running — a practical counterweight to Belgian chocolate and fries.
